The museum of traditions, a few kilometres from our campsite in Biscarrosse, is a surprising and unique place to discover with your family. Traditional heritage and Landes nature are the main characters, thanks to the donations of several local families.
Gemmage, a strong Landes tradition
The museum of the traditions of Biscarrosse was created in 1988. It was created by volunteers, proud of their culture and heritage. There are many relics of the tools, photographs and archive documents relating the life of the Landes from the Middle Ages to the modern era.
The tradition of gemmage (or resinage), an activity specific to the traditional exploitation of Landes pine, is strongly represented. This process dates back to Gallo-Roman times, but spread in the region in the mid-18ᵉ century.
Educational farm and boat trip
To round off this beautiful family day, the museum offers a visit to an educational farm. Here, children will happily discover sheep, lambs and chickens, but also pigs, goats and even donkeys… and some nice surprises.
Young and old alike can feed and cuddle the animals in peace and quiet and enjoy a refreshing drink. The highlight of the show: a magnificent blue peacock ready to do a cartwheel!
For all the adventurers, the day can be completed by a boat trip of about two hours. The programme includes small wooden bridges, the flora and fauna of the Landes, and you may even spot rare species such as grey cranes.
